A Day that will live in Infamy (Day 1 reflections)

It's Millen Time!

First, let me address the Detroit Lions. They already have a terrible offensive line. They swap picks, essentially, with Kansas City so the Chiefs can grab OL Branden Albert (a potential top ten pick) and then grab RT Gosder Cherilus? Cherilus is too slow to play LT (protect the QBs blind side) and he may even move over to OG. Now why?

To make matters worse, they pass on LBs like Dan Connor, Tavares Gooden, Cliff Avril, etc. to grab a 4th round prospect named Jordon Dizon. Dizon could be a solid player in the league but he doesn't project to be as good as the aforementioned LBs.

They could have made some wiser decisions.

Taking a page from Millen's book

The Washington Redskins needed a WR. They moved back into the second round and stole Devin Thomas. GREAT VALUE PICK! But, with help needed desperately at DE, OL, LB, and DB... why did they take a sure-fire bust in TE Fred Davis and then WR Malcolm Kelly? They need to redeem themselves drastically tomorrow.

Steals

Pittsburgh came away from day one with the top picks. They had steals in Rashard Mendenhall and Limas Sweed.

Arizona has to be pleased with being able to nab Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Calais Campbell.

Phillip Merling, unbelievably, slid to Miami at the top of the second round. This pick will pay off big time for the 'Phins.

Kansas City getting Glenn Dorsey, than Branden Albert, and then Brandon Flowers. GREAT DAY for the Chiefs.

Mike Jenkins to Dallas, James Hardy to Buffalo, Kenny Phillips to the Giants, DeSean Jackson to the Eagles, and Patrick Lee to the Packers were all great value picks as well.

Trash

What the heck were these team's thinking with these picks?

Carolina and Jonathan Stewart - Hello, Mendenhall is still on the board and Stewart comes from the same tree as DeShaun Foster health-wise.

Detroit Lions - see above.

Washington Redskins - see above.

Baltimore - You need a CB and you draft Ray Rice?

Tennessee - Chris Johnson in the first? A big time reach for a part-time carrier that should compliment LenDale White well.

Day Two Watch List

Mario Manningham, Early Doucet, Marcus Howard, Dan Connor, Justin King, Charles Godfrey, Cliff Avril, and Tavares Gooden will all be good value picks on the second day.

"The Detroit Lions select WR DeSean Jackson..."

It is a sigh of relief for Lions fans everywhere that they didn't hear that, isn't it?

How about the Kansas City Chiefs making the play for DT Glenn Dorsey and than grabbing OG/T Branden Albert? So far, according to our grading system on both picks, the Chiefs have scored an average of 9/10.

What can I say? Solid picks by all except for New England and Denver.

Jacksonville moved up for Harvey but they could have stayed put and been satisfied with Calais Campbell.

I like Mayo a lot but they didn't get great value with him.

Clady is a typical boom or bust prospect.
Picks 2-5 Reactions

1.2 STL is getting a steal in DE Chris Long. He is my top prospect in this draft.

1.3 ATL gets the guy we called earlier this week. We had this pick solidified and it makes a lot of sense. Ryan is a student of the game and he compares to Peyton Manning in as much as he studies film.

1.4 OAK grabs McFadden. I don't like this pick because OAK could have grabbed Dorsey but heck, does OAK still know what they are doing. They gave DT T. Kelly an uber amount of loot. Run-DMC is one heck of an athlete but he doesn't fill their needs at all.

1.5 KC gets Glenn Dorsey. DT was not a need but this is a GREAT steal for the rebuilding Chiefs.
